Since this column tends to be pretty random and covers topics from advices about the world of illustration, some artistic tips and also personal rants, I decided that the subject today could follow on the 'artistic tips' category.

Some time ago I read that the skin tones are pretty neutral, one tends to think of them as close to the color pink, in white people that is, and even if this is true, the skin is specially affected by the color of the light.

This phenomenon is called 'color bleed' or 'reflected light' and consists in the fact that objects transmit their color to other objects near them in different amounts, depending on the materials.

In the painting of the Crowning of David I put special attention in this fact, since the characters are vampires and the light source is very strong.



Nowadays this principle is used in 3D rendering in different ways, I'll leave a link with some examples.

Reflejo del Color

Ya que esta columna suele ser bastante azarosa y cubre desde consejos respecto al mundo de la ilustración, algunos tips artísticos y también quejas personales, decidí que hoy el tema cayera en la categoría de 'tips artísticos'.

Hace un tiempo leí o escuché por ahí que los tonos de piel son muy neutros, uno tiende a pensar en ellos como cercanos al rosado en la gente de tez blanca, y aunque esto es cierto, la piel es especialmente afectada por el color de luz que llegue.

A este fenómeno se le llama 'color bleed' o 'reflejo de la luz' y consiste en el hecho de que los objetos transmiten su color a otros objetos que estén cercanos en mayor o menor medida, dependiendo de la materialidad.

En la pintura de la coronación de David puse especial atención en este hecho, ya que se trataba de vampiros y la fuente de luz en la pintura es muy fuerte.
