I've been working like crazy on trying to master the tones in my artwork, since some people say that when the tone is correct, the color doesn't really matter that much.

I came up with a method to do this, is not that innovative, but it serves it's purpose.

Since I don't like working on grayscale before doing an illustration, and I work sort of alla prima, I'm constantly checking the tones in my images by desaturating them completely in Photoshop, especially in the early stages, this serves to check out the tones, keeping the higher contrast in the areas of interest, and as a study of lights and shadow.


In this illustration you can clearly see some examples of all that, although I did fix the tones a bit more in the following stages, this was a good starting point.

Revisando los Tonos

He estado trabajando como loco en tratar de mejorar los tonos en mis imágenes, ya que algunas personas dicen que cuando el tono es correcto, el color no importa tanto.

Encontré un método para hacer esto, no es tan inovador, pero sirve su propósito.

Ya que no me gusta trabajar en escala de grises antes de hacer una ilustración, y trabajo alla prima, estoy constantemente revisando los tonos en mis ilustraciones al desaturarlas completamente en Photoshop, especialmente en las etapas más tempranas, esto sirve para revisar el tono, dejando el contraste más alto en las áreas de interes, y como un estudio de la luz y la sombra.


En esta ilustración se pueden ver claramente algunos ejemplos de todo eso, aunque si arreglé los tonos un poco más en las siguientes etapas, este fue un buen punto de partida.
